Fantasy Fest is ten days in late October when Key West doubles in population and Duval closes to traffic. The boats are the escape hatch: quiet during the day, back on Duval by dark. Hurricane season: worth the gamble?
August through mid-October is the cheapest Key West of the year for a reason. Most weeks are fine — hot, a 3 p.m. storm, clear by five. But a named storm cancels everything, and captains cancel for wind well before that. If you book in this window, book boats that refund on weather (all the ones on our pages do), morning slots, and travel insurance for the house.
