The company

Built for Cuba, kept for Key West

Three partners bought Argo Navis unfinished, meaning to run private charters to Cuba. When the rules on Cuba travel changed, she joined the Hindu Charters fleet in 2016 instead, and it took two years to finish her out for passengers. At 75 feet by 35, certified for 91, she is the largest sailing catamaran in Key West and the last commercial sailing vessel built on the island.

Hindu Charters is Capt. Josh Rowan, who started a charter business in Key West at 15, with Capt. Emyl Hattingh as part owner and primary skipper and Walter Shurtenburger, who designed the boat, as partner. The sister ships, the 1925 schooner Hindu and the cutter Bloodhound, summer in Provincetown.

“Never overcrowded.”
