The company

One boat in 1984, five catamarans now

Richard C. Welter started Sunset Watersports in 1984 at 25 with one boat and helped bring parasailing to South Florida. His son Rich Welter is co-owner today, and the boats carry the family's names: Miss Lora, Sandie Cat, Miss Valyn. The Key West Chamber marked the 40th anniversary in 2024 and called it the largest family-founded and family-run watersports company in North America.

Four bases: the Historic Seaport at 201 William Street for the cruises, snorkel and sandbar trips; Parrot Key Resort for jet skis; Cow Key Marina on Stock Island for rentals and eco tours; and Smathers Beach for parasailing. Blue Star Operator, and a Plant a Million Corals partner.

“North America's largest family-founded, owned and operated watersports company.”
Key West Chamber of Commerce, October 2024
